My name is Jeff Rideout and I am a Kinesiologist working with Eastern Health in St. John's, NL. For the last 7 years I have been a member of the Workplace Health, Safety and EFAP department. In my current role I am responsible for our regional Safe Patient Resident Handling program. I work predominantly with nursing staff teaching our safe work practices and also safe body mechanics.  I have also done ergonomic work outside of nursing units and am responsible for evaluation of certain safety equipment.

 

Anywhere that an employee has questions on how to safely transfer a patient or resident, I am working with nursing staff. I've spent time in ICU, long term care, acute care, and dialysis from the Bonavista peninsula to Quidi Vidi Lake in St. John's teaching safe body mechanics. My office is located in a 461 bed long term care facility we moved into during the fall of 2014 located in the east end of St. John's. In 2014, I was a part of a large scale operation where we successfully moved 370 residents into this new facility from our old Hoyles-Escasoni Complex. I am a member of the Association for Allied Health professionals as well as an out of province member of the Ontario Kinesiology Association. I am excited to get back to school after last completing my Kinesiology degree in 2010. I look forward to the challenge this program will offer as well as the learning opportunities from my all my new classmates. My career goals are leading me towards management and my hope is this program will help open further opportunities. My purpose of this portfolio is to share with you a little about what I do everyday and what I learn in my program.

I am recently engaged with plans to get married next summer. We have a 2 year old 75 pound sheepadoodle named Bo that keeps us busy in our spare time. I also enjoy about anything sports related as well as playing guitar.
