In my role I do not provide direct patient or resident care. My goal is to keep all health care providers safe so that they can stay in the workplace. I believe because of my role, I do not have a direct impact under the Canadian Health Care act, however, I have an indirect impact. All residents of Canada must have access to insured health services. In Newfoundland with a small population, we often do not have high numbers of specialist in many areas. We also have limited areas for blood collection and diagnostic imaging for example. If we have staff injuries which cause delays in these areas, our residents will feel the burden of increased wait times. This is where I believe my role is very important. We must do everything we can to keep our staff healthy and safe in the workplace so they can continue to provide safe and efficient care for our population.
I plan to continue my thoughts on this manner in my first assignment.
Here is an interesting article from my vantage point.
